any NetBSD bootup (or showconfig's) you can show us, best for both
your machines?

How do you boot?

Can you hookup somethign that displays (and allows to possibly type
in) ascii at 9600 bps, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stopbit, to the internal
serial and tell us what you see there? (could be a panic message from
graphics initialization).
