NetBSD-1.2D binary snapshot available
Hello,
I've made a binary snapshot of NetBSD-1.2D (current, as of early April
1997), and uploaded it to
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/amiga/snapshots/199704/
You don't want this, if you track -current already. You don't want this for
most machines, if you want a stable, reliable system (get -1.2.1 instead).
It might be useful however, if:
- for some reason you want to switch to NetBSD-current, as a starting point
"Some reason" includes: you want to alpha-test the
- DraCo serial port driver (including: serial mouse support)
- support for DraCo boards rev. 4
- support for Blizzard IV, Blizzard 2060, CyberSCSI Mk. I (be warned, however
that the these drivers have been reported to be much less than perfect)
I already found one bug of the installation procedure: the network
configuration created is NOT adapted to the new /etc/rc, so the
configuration created by the Configure command will partially be lost.
You have to create an /etc/ifconfig.bah0 (for example), containing the
parameters to ifconfig you want to be used on the bah0 interface.
I didn't fix this because I don't think any more work should be put
into the specialized Amiga installation procedure; Amiga should be
switched to the generic miniroot instead.
[For a definition of "current", "snapshot", "NetBSD-1.2D" etc. look at
http://www.netbsd.org/Releases/release-map.html]
Additional goodie:
People who want to use X11 on the DraCo, need serial mice support in
Xamiga. I have made available a snapshot of my installation, compiled
for and in daily use on NetBSD-current, on
ftp://ftp.uni-regensburg.de
/pub/NetBSD-Amiga/incoming/x11r6.1-netbsd-12D-68040-60*
These programs won't run on 68020 and 68030 machines.
