DUMPS and RESTORES

Does anyone know how to successfully do and interactive restore tar cpio etc
from tape... I ran a Dump on a newly installed system Using the dump -0f
/dev/st0
command and it didnt work... ??
Well the dump seemed to work but the restore command came back and said
not a dump tape...
Its on there... I just cant get it...
I am running on a amiga2000 with a 030 33 mhz mega midget... 16 megs of ram...
and archive viper 150 tape drive and  using a 250 megabyte 3m cartridge...
How can i get this to work....
Its alot of trouble setting this up and configuring it and to continue to do
so
every time defeats the purpose of having tape support....
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated
