There are some modes not especially made for the merlin but they seem to
work. The only problem is, that my merlin runs in ZorroIII and I got that
awful looking screen as you described. So this is obviously not a grfmodes
problem. There are different modes available depending on the monitor you
are using. They are also found in X11R6.1-01Oct96.README.
