g'morning.

anybody else out there spot the article in Amiga Report 4.11 about a
revised wd33c93a-pl chip available? apparantly, almost all a3000's
were shipped with the 00-04 revision, which has known bugs when
multiple devices are on the chain, especially checksums and random
glitches when doing long-distance 'tween-device transfers, especially
with CD-ROMs and tape drives. single device on the chain, no
problems.

basically, there was a wd33c93a-pl 00-08 revision which addresses and
fixes all known problems, characterised by the above. although WD
don't make chips now, AMD make a clone of the chip which performs as
well if not better than the WD counterpart.

the poster in ar411 mentioned he could get the new chips for about
US$20 depending on number [although i'm not posing purely to plug
this ;-]

just wondering if this could be a reason for any a3000 SCSI problems
BSDers are getting? myself, i'm gonna be upgrading the almathera
file/nameservers [both a3000s] with new chips ASAP, to improve
DATbackup/CDjukebox/SCSI performance - is anybody running a rev8 chip
already with any noticeable differences? [a3000 SCSI has always been
very heavy when a DAT kicks in, the new chips may improve things, for
example]
