I would assume so, looking at these funny characters appearing on the screen.

They also appear when trying to boot with ACPI and SMP off.

Would you think installing via an alternative method (floppies?) could help?


Just an idea: maybe you could try booting the kernel with another
boot loader (such as GRUB).  I've never tried this for an installation,
though.
