Well, that's odd. I've never seen this happen, not even with NetBSD/i386.
NetBSD/i386 should boot just fine on an amd64 machine as well.

I can't think of a software issue that causes this offhand. Trying a
different video card may be a good idea.. Losing image altogether
is just not right.
