Issue with malo card in -8

I wanted to have an out-of-band communication path to my AlphaServer DS25, 
so I installed an older Netgear wireless PCI card which is supported by 
the malo* driver:

I installed firmware from the URL in the man page in to 
/libdata/firmware/malo/

However, the first time I try to do anything with the interface - ifconfig 
malo0 up, or dhcpcd - the machine locks hard. I couldn't get in to the 
debugger, but this might just be an issue with my current serial setup. 
RMC works, though.

Maybe I should try another kind of wireless card...
