Yes, fallout from the dumb decision to make ‘d’ the raw (whole disk) partition on i386 back in ancient history.

The entire way we do disk partitioning is a mess, and I never really had the time to make “wedges” what I envisioned it to be.  Maybe I’ll take another crack at it one day.
