Sorry for the noise, you are right carrier is the same,
(pci-card which takes a pcmcia card), i had not checked dmesg 
after install on the 164LX, netgear pcmcia 11b(prism 2.5?)
works while 2.0 does not.PCI number is alpha machine specific
