Dear list,
as we're discussing this:
does anybody run (or try to run) XFree86 from xsrc on alpha? And if yes:
with which card?
I use the stuff from caseydoodle.com (as XdecNetBSD does not support my
card!), which runs very well. The guy has done a great job. On a PWS 600
and the card probes like this:
vga0 at pci0 dev 12 function 0: Texas Instruments TVP4020 Permedia 2 (rev.
0x01)
wsdisplay0 at vga0 (kbdmux ignored): console (80x25, vt100 emulation)
The only problem is that you have to use special settings on your kernel,
which makes the first console unusable (means: ne xdm, kdm useable!).
And, when you end X, video does not come back.
I once asked Mel (the guy from caseydoodle.com) if we wouldn't like to
include his patches into xsrc, but he estimated that only very few people
uses his X collection.
So I'm really wondering how many alphas (running X) are still be used out
there...
Cheers,
Torsten
