Dear list,

I successfully installed NetBSD 1.6R on a Personal Workstation 600au. This
machine is equipped with a

vga0 at pci0 dev 12 function 0: Texas Instruments TVP4020 Permedia 2 (rev. 0x01)
wsdisplay0 at vga0 (kbdmux ignored): console (80x25, vt100 emulation)

card (actually, this card was manufacted by ELSA) and run under DECunix.

Although I read on the NetBSD/alpha FAQ, that only very few cards are
supported for running an X server, I had quite some hope that this
information might be a bit outdated and I might get an X server run.

So I checked out xsrc out of cvs and compiled it (with several options),
but unfortunately still get:


unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Fatal server error:
no screens found
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

.. and I saw no was to configure X any further.


On the other hand, I find at

the following information:

So I thought that I should get the card run at least on VGA mode.

Does NetBSD do something very different on alpha, which explains this? Or
does anybody has any further information / hints .. whatever?
