a few days ago I dragged out my 3000/400 and installed 1.6.1 on it.

sysinst unpacked all the sets from the multi-arch iso, but ran out of
ramdisk space. I was also a little surprised TCWSCONS isn't enabled by
default, and there wasn't a TCWSCONS kernel on the multi-arch iso.

unfortunately errors on the crufty old CDROM seem to be wedging the
driver:

cd0 at scsibus0 target 4 lun 0: <DEC, RRD42 (C) DEC, 4.5d> SCSI2 5/cdrom removable
cd0: async, 8-bit transfers
scsibus1: waiting 2 seconds for devices to settle...
root on sd0a dumps on sd0b
root file system type: ffs
cd0: no disk label
cd0(asc0:0:4:0): Check Condition on CDB: 0x08 02 26 6c 80 00
    SENSE KEY: Media Error
   INFO FIELD: 140972
     ASC/ASCQ: No Seek Complete

cd0(asc0:0:4:0): asc0: timed out [ecb 0xfffffc0005ce05f8 (flags 0x1, dleft 6800, stat 0)], <state 1, nexus 0x0, phase(l 10, c 100, p 3), resid 0, msg(q 0,o 0) >

the obvious workaround is to not use the drive, but it seems like the
driver should handle things a little more gracefully. ;)
