While yeah, sure, it's always good to be prudent, I wouldn't be so afraid of
softdeps. I've been using them religiously while tracking -current on 3
alphas, including one with RAID-5, and one with a QLogic 1040 <--> Promise
UDMA 66. I have them on every root, usr, var-- you name it.
I do regular builds of src and xsrc, including full tree copies betwixt
devices every couple days. I've never (god bless 'em) had a reason to turn
softdeps off. The speed far outweighs the risk, especially considering that
the definition of 'risk' in this case is something far, far more stable in my
experience than, say, ext2 in Linux or FAT in Windows.
Just stay clear of LFS. ;^)
