port-alpha: Screen clearing out of X exit?????

I got X up and running on my alpha 3000 300LX
using a VRT-19 HA, and it works fine, except on
exit.  It won't clear the screen properly, and
a manual clear only clears the portion of the
screen used by wscons.  Is there a way to force
a full screen clear on the exit of X, or how is
that supposed to be done?
