Dumb newbie question:  Is softupdates on by default in NetBSD 1.5.2?

I come from FreeBSD, where mount(8) shows which filesystems have
softupdates enabled and tunefs(8) has an option to turn it off and on. 
The NetBSD tunefs(8) man page refers to McKusick and Ganger's paper, but
doesn't have that option.
