Subject: scsi bus problems

I am now getting worried about my AlphaStation. While untar'ing some
newer kernel sources the system appeared to freeze. I could still use
the system but anything that required a disk access would hang. After
a few seconds of this I saw the following appear on the console...

sd0 (siop1:0:0): command timeout
siop1: scsi bus reset
cmd 0xfffffe0000044580 (target 0) in reset list
cmd 0xfffffe0000044580 about to be processed

Then after a few more seconds processes became unhung, but anything
that required disk access would just terminate with an input/output
error message:

bash: /bin/ls: Input/output error

I would guess that this is indicative of a cabling or termination
problem, but I feel pretty sure that both the cabling and termination
are sound.

Any thoughts as to if this is a software, hardware, or configuration
problem?

Could sd0 be failing?

Thanks,
Nick Maniscalco
