my last post regarding this problem met with resounding silence, but that
could have been just a quirk on Majordomo's part.   to recap, i'm getting
the error:

  panic: pci_display_console: no device at 0/0/0

when i try to install 1.4.2 on an AlphaServer 1000 4/266, ArcConsole 4.44.
this seems to be a known issue, but i haven't been able to locate the fix.
if the fix does exist, i'd be grateful if someone would point me to
it.   if it doesn't exist, how can i help in making it exist?
