Um, er, ah, well...

I don't have my Alpha here in front of me so I'm a bit clueless and I   
must confess, I've never tried mounting a MSDOS disk on an alpha (i386   
innumerable times).

I wonder if you need to compile:
file-system     MSDOSFS

into the kernel or even if it is supported in the alpha kernel?

I think someone might need to jump into this discussion and set me   
straight.
