OK, OK. I just ordered a Promise card.

I also, BTW, read through sources and chipset specs looking for a problem
with I/O mapping >= 64K.  (And so did Charles...)

The only thing I found was a problem with PCI I/O mapping < 64k (?!) ...
they aren't supposed to work, being reserved in that chipset for (E)ISA.

Go figure.
