FYI, to those of you who were watching this discussion w/ interest:

* there was a bug in installboot(8).

* it's been fixed (updated version should show up in -current
tomorrow), and a pullup request has been submitted for 1.4.1.

* if you want a fixed installboot binary or the patch to 1.4 to
fix the problem, send me e-mail.
