Oh, actually, I reread your email, and I think that you might
have more luck netbooting a more -current version of NetBSD.
If you try ftp://ftp.netbsd.org//pub/NetBSD/arch/alpha/snapshot/19990325
you'll find a snapshot of one, and I believe that will have
more luck that 1.3.3.
