Um, I hate to break this to you...

But you did a _downgrade_.

NetBSD 1.3E is "-current".  1.3.3 is basically NetBSD 1.3 (older than 1.3E)
plus some bug fixes (some of which were already in 1.3E).

That's probably why you had so much trouble.
