same exact hardware, redhat 5.1 is at 92 mbits/second. damn. 

we'll keep trying with netbsd, but for now we have to cut the cluster 
over to linux. I want to get on netbsd asap though because it understands 
SRM bios and serial console ports, and ARC and linux do not.
