ok I've been using samba on my axppci33 system for a little while
and have been pleased upto now.

While copying hundreds of megs from a window machine to my alpha via samba, I
telneted in a begin to cp a file from one of my scsi disks to another.

all of the sudden both copying processes (the cp and the smbd) were copying
the files at ~50k/sec! Considering I have invested a lot of money into the
scsi disks in this system this is unacceptable :(

Now I tried the same exact situation but intead of copying a file via samba
I just used old reliable ftp. No problems here, everything went quite
speedily.

I did notice many wanrings that seemed to only happen when compiling samba
on alpha
systems. Any chance that unaligned access are hurting me?

Any similar experiences?

Thanks,
Nick
