Wow. The trouble is that I've never been able to reproduce
this myself and I've been stumped over what's been happening
easily, although I have some pretty good theories. The trouble is that
I'll have to do a large chunk of work to fix those theories.

Let me at least take your config file and build a test kernel with that
and ship that to you and maybe you can tell me how it goes.
