Well, I finally got the ic and changed out the burnt up
part on the board. The machine runs now :)

The vendor AVNET carries the part 74ABT623D for <$2.00 each.
They were the only ones that i could find that had the part
in stock, but I only checked with the suppliers that I commonly
deal with. Since the resistors read ok, I left them alone. The
blackened spot on the ic was the clue as to what was wrong...
