One data point is that the last time I installed Digital UNIX it did
offer to install Xnest, so DEC did port it on the Alpha.  I have no
idea what interoperability testing they did (if any).  But the Digital
X group was fairly good about feeding their changes back to the X
Consortium (except for a few things like the 'smart' smart frame buffer
code and the old turbochannel 3d board support).
