Not as far as I know.  Without specific information about what it's
printing out, it's impossible to me (or us 8-) to tell you whether or
not it's halting correctly or crashing for some reason before it can.

It could be the firmware that's losing.  The thing that you think is
"some kind of debugger" is almost certainly the firmware prompt.

Uh, well, you've not conclusively stated what "this" is.

It may be a bug in NetBSD/alpha, or it may be a bug in your firmware.
If the latter, you'll need to update your firmware.
