I am having trouble compiling SmartList on the Alpha 3000/300 system.
If anyone has succeeded in accomplishing this, or can help in any way,
I would appreciate it.

The specific error I get is "getcwd() failed" when I run "install.sh".
Here is a transcript:
    # sh install.sh /home/list
    Hardwiring '$HOME' as the list directory owned by 'list'.
    cc -c -O multigram.c
    cc -c -O sublib.c
    cc -c -O ecommon.c
    cc -c -O mcommon.c
    cc -c -O hsort.c
    cc -c -O lastdirsep.c
    cc -O multigram.o sublib.o ecommon.o mcommon.o hsort.o lastdirsep.o -o multigram -s  -lm -lc
    getcwd() failed

A possibly related error is announced while making setid:
    Benchmarking your system's strstr() implementation
    Segmentation fault
However, setid does compile.

I am running an older snapshot of NetBSD (perhaps from half a year ago).
I don't know how to find out exactly which snapshot it is. 'dmesg' bails
out with: "dmesg: kvm_read: kvm_read: Bad address"

I am weary of upgrading to the current snapshot, because the system is
very stable otherwise, and generally mission critical.

Many thanks in advance for any information on this problem...
