Ahh, that was because i was trying to run the 'restore' process on an
NFS file system...  I figured, if all you want is to get a few files
back...  (there is much more lossage in dump and restore than i had
previously believed.  8-)


So, now, as far as i can tell: (contrary to your statement in the mail
with the patches) _i_ can extract dumps created on the alpha on both
the i386 and the alpha...

I've not tried creating a dump on the i386 and extracting it on the
alpha, yet.
