so, i figured out why xdm doesn't work: sigsetjmp is/was broken in the
last release.  I've not yet checked in my fix to the master sources,
because i'm not particularly happy with it yet, but i'll do so in the
next couple of days.

If anybody would like a new xdm binary, tell me, and i'll put one up.
