Cool, thanks. Since I use conserver only from the server itself, that suits
me well.

Some remarks about MESSAGE:

o You may want to think about the spelling of configuration.  ;)
  OTOH, 'config file' would do nicely.
o conserverconvert wants the old file as filename, not its content on stdin:

[hauke@pizza] /etc # conserverconvert < conserver-7.cf > conserver.cf
convert: Usage: convert old-conserver.cf

Apart from that, I find the MESSAGE text very helpful.

Starting conserver8 gave me

[hauke@pizza] /etc # rc.d/conserver8 start
Starting conserver.
[Fri May 20 22:15:19 2005] conserver (3104): conserver.com version 8.1.11
[Fri May 20 22:15:19 2005] conserver (3104): started as `root' by `hauke'
[Fri May 20 22:15:20 2005] conserver (3104): daemonizing

which is probably a bit too verbose.
