I finally got opportunity to try 'chromium' again and it didn't lock up
the machine but it doesn't behave, either.  It got as far as opening
its window and putting its location bar and other widgets in the window
and then froze while trying to animate some buttons flying from the upper
left, so there are these streaks left across the window.

Not run from a terminal, but below is a clip from my ".xsession-errors"
file from the point at which I launched 'chromium'.  This is on a recent
netbsd-10/amd64 (10.1_STABLE) w/i915drmkms on a G41TY graphics device,
chromium built from pkgsrc-2025Q1.  Window manager is fvwm2.

In its current state, an image of the 'chromium' window occupies the root
window in every workspace but switching back to the 'chromium' workspace
keeps an image of the last workspace's windows overlaying it.
