Some more thoughts on sysutils/tsm8...

I'll look into packaging that jdk.

Packaged as wip/ibm-semeru-jdk21, but fails on netbsd-10 linux emulation with

% /usr/pkg/java/ibm-semeru-jdk21/bin/java -version
Error: Port Library failed to initialize: -86
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

We have been running TSM (aka IBM Spectrum Protect) for about 20 years on NetBSD in linux emulation, and it has always been very self-contained and undemanding. Upstream switching its GUI dependency from a conservative choice of JDK to an obscure, bleeding-edge one is a peculiar development.

Now, netbsd-10 linux emulation has broken sysutils/tsm8 (PR kern/58677), any GUI machines are not likely to run netbsd-9, and (our) servers tend to be fine with the dsmc CLI. So I am inclined to punt, and mark the java option as BROKEN for lack of a suitable JDK.

Comments, especially from people using tsm8?

Cheerio,
Hauke
