HEADSUP: macOS binary package repository has moved
Hi! If you do not use the macOS binary packages from
https://pkgsrc.joyent.com/install-on-osx/ you can ignore the rest of
this email.
You may have noticed there have been no updates to that repository in
a while. This is because the older release running on my build host
(OSX Mavericks, 10.9) is unable to build MesaLib 18.x which is a
highly used dependency. As this results in many packages being
unavailable the publishing process does not upgrade the repository,
despite newer versions of other packages being available as normal.
After polling on Twitter last year, it seems most users of 64-bit
macOS upgrade to newer versions as and when they are released, and so
upgrading the build host is an attractive option as more software
starts to drop support for EOL releases.
To that end I am upgrading the build host from Mavericks 10.9 to
Sierra 10.12, and over the next few days the repository will
(hopefully!) be populated with packages built on that release.
If you are running an older release than Sierra, and wish to retain
the option of installing available Mavericks packages, then you will
need to change the repository URL in the following files:
/opt/pkg/etc/pkgin/repositories.conf
/opt/pkg/etc/pkg_install.conf
to be:
https://us-east.manta.joyent.com/pkgsrc/public/packages/Darwin/10.9/trunk/x86_64/All
This archive will remain permanently as the final Mavericks build.
If you are running Sierra or newer, then you do not need to do
anything, a "pkgin full-upgrade" performed once the packages are
updated will refresh everything to the new builds.
Thanks,
