Re: Package binaries for NetBSD 7.2

Seems to me the problem with package binaries goes beyond 7.2. I’ve tried doing a new install with a very small set of packages using NetBSD 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 and 8.0. The problem I’ve run into in all cases is finding a package archive that contains all the packages I’m trying to install. But the bigger issue is that the package archives aren’t internally consistent. By that I mean there are packages in the archive that depend on other packages that aren’t in the archive. And when one starts trying to do package installs using multiple archives the dependency issues quickly blow everything up.

It’s almost impossible to do a clean NetBSD installation with a minimal set of packages without having to try and build the packages yourself.
