What is the current status of pkgtools/pkg for NetBSD?

Has anybody tried it, or do NetBSD users use pkgsrc in the traditional way, as documented in www.pkgsrc.org?

I was curious about pkgtools/synth, recently ported to NetBSD, but don't really want to try anything too experimental if I am the only one.  Then if something goes bad and I need help, there is no community to help me.

Or am I better to stick with traditional pkgsrc tools on NetBSD, as documented in www.pkgsrc.org and the NetBSD and pkgsrc guides?
