python (2.7) interpreter and readline history?

Curious, I thought this used to work.

Under the python2.7 interpreter (I'm using SunOS i386)
I don't seem to have working readline history (up arrows and the like)

Native python works fine.

Tried on mollari with the same result...

> Python 2.7.10 (default, Oct  9 2015, 04:06:18)

? anybody actually have this working?
