No idea regarding suspend/hibernate (I do not use them) but I'm pretty
happy with x11/slock... and regarding "no frills" probably it will suit
your needs well.
Regarding the keyboard combination there shouldn't be any problem using
it with x11/xbindkeys (altough in the last years I'm using the
falicities provided by the WM for that).
The only issue that I have encountered (but probably you can safely
ignore it) was the use in combination with x11/unclutter (that broked
the "lock" IIRC); so slock here is just a shell script that pkill(1)
unclutter, start slock and then restart unclutter in the background.
