pkg/47087 Gnome desktop, alacarte, and NetBSD

While people using NetBSD are building the Gnome desktop, could
someone fire up the desktop and trying selecting the Applications menu
with a mouse?  I'm curious if others are experiencing the problem I
reported in pkg/47087, a problem that appears similar to bugs reported
on separate Linux systems with alacarte, where basically nothing
happens if one tries selecting the Applications menu on the top panel.

Meanwhile, probably unrelated, as reported for pkg/47014, on DragonFly
3.3-DEVELOPMENT same machines, just trying to start gnome-session with
startx results in nothing but a black screen.
