FWIW, same error with vlc2:

$ /usr/pkg/bin/vlc
VLC media player 2.0.1 Twoflower (revision 2.0.1-0-gf432547)
[0xbb8020d4] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to
use vlc without interface.
[0xbb810b64] qt4 interface error: Unable to load extensions module
Memory fault (core dumped)

so in pkgsrc2012Q2 I can't use mplayer, vlc1, vlc2, .. let's see what else
doesn't work,
this is a beautiful journey so far.
