I find something strange when I run make package:

What could be that ".destdir.." due to? Shouldn't it be
".destdir/usr/pkg/share/kiax/icons/"?

I think that's happening only to me, due to some faulty setting of mine
somewhere.

But where can it be? I don't find anything even remotely suspicious in my
/etc/mk.conf or the environment.

I am building as root - if that matters.
