+1 for the use case you described – if more is required, I'd recommend

Windows: FileZilla – http://filezilla-project.org/ (cross-platform, but rather 
ugly / no good UX on non-Windows)
OS X: CyberDuck – http://cyberduck.ch/ (Windows+Mac, can't vouch for the 
Windows port UX though)

Both are open source, both also support SFTP so you could even avoid using FTP 
altogether (worrying about the user's FTP client while sending the password in 
plain text across the network… well)
