Hm. So linking both modular libX11 (with xcb) and native libX11 into a
single application doesn't sound like an option? (I don't suppose the
dynamic linker links "tree-like" for that to work).

I any case, I've sent a bug report upstream (importance: medium /
blocker).  Hopefully they can fix it.
