Re: TeXlive? Or any recent alternative?

All the engines (tex, etex, pdftex, luatex, and their latex counterparts) are
the versions included in TeX Live 2009, and so are all the basic TeX and LaTeX
packages (print/tex-collection-basic for TeX and print/tex-collection-latex for
LaTeX). The rest are a blend of teTeX and TeX Live 2009, as Greg pointed out.
I am replacing the remaining part of teTeX with TeX Live and any help would be
appreciated. Creating pkgsrc packages is trivial for most of LaTeX styles in
TeX Live.

See print/teTeX/DESCR. This will install teTeX and TeX Live packages to have
features equivalent to those of teTeX-3. Additional TeX Live packages (e.g.,
print/tex-IEEEtran and print/tex-algorithm2e) are also available in pkgsrc, but
there is no meta package for those yet.

I have been using print/teTeX with some other tex-* on Mac OS X without any
issue.
