spellchecking in openoffice3

Hi,
   Does spell checking work for anyone in openoffice3-3.1.1nb1?

For us when you select "Spelling and Grammar" you get the Spelling 
dialog box with another dialog on top that either says  "Continue 
checking at beginning of document?" or "The spellcheck is complete" 
and when you click on "OK" for that it all disappears without 
checking anything.

Just trying to work out if if this is a general problem or something 
about the setup here.
