mjpegtools on Snow Leopard: dylib complaints

I have installed pkgsrc with the 32bit abi setting, and tried an  
install of mjpegtools.

It compiles/installs, but when run gives:

$ mpeg2enc
dyld: Symbol not found: ___progname
  Referenced from: /opt/pkg/lib/libmjpegutils-1.9.0.dylib
  Expected in: flat namespace
 in /opt/pkg/lib/libmjpegutils-1.9.0.dylib
Trace/BPT trap
$

Any clues?
