I've been corresponding wtih Matthieu Herrb (OpenBSD X maintainer and
long-time X developer), and he told me that xorg-server-1.1.99.903 is
stable enough for production use. I made some packages and tried out
Xorg with components all from X11R7.2-RC3 and beyond, and from my
admittedly cursory testing, it seems just as stable as XFree86 4.6.0
and more stable than Xorg 6.9.0 from pkgsrc. Now, I realize such
judgements of stability are mostly subjective, but the fact that all
of the patches for xorg-server-1.1.1 (and more) have found their way
upstream is not.

I know you're currently more than busy updating the pkgsrc
infrastructure for modular Xorg. I'm just wondering if, after your
extant work is completed, you'd be interested in updating some of the
modules (mostly the server).

Also, I'm working on bringing modular xorg in-tree with macallan@, and
would appreciate very much if you'd outline why you prefer not to use
XCB. We're probably not going to use it if only because
xsltproc/libxslt seems buggy and has too many dependencies, but I'd
nevertheless like to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks for your time,

P.S. Have you looked at OpenBSD's xenocara (www.xenocara.org)? It's
their Xorg tree and build system. Interesting stuff.
