I've run into this a few times on new test hosts with 2006Q4.
cd /usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs-nox11 && echo 'EMACSVERSION=21.4' >>/etc/mk.conf && make install
gmake[1]: Entering directory `/usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs/work/emacs-21.4/leim'
gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs/work/emacs-21.4/leim'
=> Unwrapping files-to-be-installed.
(cd /usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs/work/emacs-21.4/lisp; /usr/pkg/bin/gmake sort.elc)
EMACSLOADPATH=/usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs/work/emacs-21.4/lisp /usr/pkg/bin/emacs -batch --no-site-file --multibyte -f batch-byte-compile sort.el
While compiling the end of the data in file /usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs/work/emacs-21.4/lisp/sort.el:
** The function `sortcar' is not known to be defined.
Wrote /usr/pkgsrc/editors/emacs/work/emacs-21.4/lisp/sort.elc
Done

the fix is as described... "pkg_delete emacs-nox11-21.4anb6" and
repeat. but I was wondering why this is happening since I beleve
the above was the only administrative request for emacs.
